Aromatherapy Massage

Nature's gift to harmonise mind and body

Aromatherapy is the art of using essential oils to help restore balance in the body and is a form of natural healing. An essential oil is a highly concentrated substance extracted from various parts of an aromatic plant.

Your Treatment:
After discussing your requirements I blend a selection of pure essential oils and carrier oils specifically tailored for your needs on that day, whether you want to address muscular aches, hormonal imbalances and need to de-stress or just to make you feel good.

An Aromatherapy Massage is soothing and nurturing, but can be adapted if you require a more stimulating massage, perhaps to liven the senses and to ease stiffness after exercise.  Available as a full body 1 hour massage or a 30 minute back and head massage.

The benefits of this delightful treatment include:
  • The relief of stress and tension
  • A feeling of deep relaxation
  • Stimulated immune system
  • A calm and soothed mind
  • Improved blood and lymph circulation
  • Increased energy levels
  • A general sense of wellbeing.

After your Aromatherapy treatment: I will advise you to avoid stimulants (tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol) for the next 24 hours, and drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins. Try to find time to relax and rest after your treatment to enhance your sense of wellbeing. Also, avoid skin washing for the rest of the day as the essential oils can continue penetrating the skin for up to 8 hours.

After your Aromatherapy Massage it is possible that you may have a "healing crisis" which is when your body is healing itself and symptoms may become a little worse before getting better. This is perfectly natural and will be helped by drinking lots of water. If you have any worries or concerns, just contact me.

A History of Aromatherapy:
Aromatic oils have been used since the time of the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks. It has been writen that Hippocrates said that "the way to health is to have an aromatic bath and scented massage every day".

The term "Aromathérapie" was coined in the 1920's by a French Chemist René-Maurice Gattenfose to describe to describe the therapeutic action of essential oils.    Later, Dr Jean Valnet used essential oils in his treatment for healing wounds of World War II soldiers, finding the oils had remarkable and effective regenerative and antiseptic properties.  Aromatherapy was brought to Britain in the late 1950's by Marguerite Maury who developed specialised massage techniques to use with essential oils that were chosen specifically for that client's needs.

Some oils are perfect for relaxation, others are more stimulating.  Essential oils have an affinity with certain body systems, and can bring these into balance.

The oils can effect the body in two ways:

The physical effect they have when the oils are absorbed into the bloodstream causing chemical changes in your body's systems.

The psychological effect is when the lovely aromas are inhaled as you breathe deeply, allowing yourself to feel truly relaxed and pampered.
